The spiritual successor to System Shock 2, Bioshock is a gripping gaming experience. Set in an alternative 1950’s, inspired by a world portrayed in Ayn Rand’s novels Fountain Head and Atlas Shrugged, the story of Bioshock hooks you from the very start and hours slip away as you explore the beautiful and claustrophic underwater world. The game is available on Steam and they recently had it available for a mere £5, probably the best game you could ever have bought for a fiver. Still you can pick up a brand new DVD version for £10 or even a second hand limited metal tin edition for even less.
This is one of the most engrossing game I have ever played and it left a lasting impression on me. I happen to have read Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged so was able to appreciate it even more! Incidentally Atlas Shrugged is causing quite a stir at the moment, a lot of people are comparing the current state of the world to the world depicted in the book. Also a film adaptation is pencilled in for 2010…
